Best Dewy Drugstore Foundation for Oily Skin!

As a drugstore beauty lover with oily/combination skin, it’s often hard for me to find the perfect foundation. Good news though…I have a new recommendation for you! The Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation is AMAZING. It works great not only on my combination skin, but my mom (who has super dry skin!) loves it, too!

According to Maybelline, this foundation provides “radiant, healthy looking skin with a luxurious feel.” And is, “an oil-free formula that is non-comedogenic and won’t clog your pores for flawless natural looking coverage.” I love the emphasis on natural coverage because I would definitely consider this a medium coverage foundation. Considering I usually go for medium-full coverage foundations, I was worried this would be too sheer for me. However, the coverage is definitely buildable, and it looks flawless after I use my Maybelline Fit Me Concealer.

As you can see, I am a pretty pale gal. Thankfully, the lightest shade in this foundation is a perfect match for me! Porcelain Ivory has slightly pink undertones and applies slightly lighter than it looks in the bottle. For reference, I wear Classic Ivory in Covergirl 3-in-1 Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation (my other go-to foundation!).

My favorite way to apply it is with a damp original BeautyBlender. If you choose to use a brush, the coverage may be even better, but I find this blends perfectly when I use a sponge. I also set this foundation with Coty Airspun Extra Coverage Translucent Powder, since I have combination skin and live in a very humid climate. However, if you don’t add concealer or have drier skin, you could skip the powder all together.

The Dream Satin Liquid Foundation has a hydrating serum in it that is supposed to provide up to 12 hours of moisture. I have worn this foundation for 12+ hours, and I can attest that my skin felt moisturized and still looked flawless after all that time. If you’re oilier you may need a shine sheet or some setting powder after several hours, but otherwise this should last you perfectly all day!

At under $10, I think the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid Foundation is a perfect choice for anyone looking for a medium coverage, dewy foundation that will last all day! You know I love my drugstore beauty items, and this foundation has quickly climbed to the top of my favorites list! Let me know below if you have any new beauty favorites!

wet n wild Photo Focus Foundation

wet n wild recently (ish?) released a new line of Photo Focus products, that they claim will help you achieve flawless, camera-ready makeup in any lighting condition. With the liquid foundation priced at only $5.99, I was anxious to try it out!

The wet n wild Photo Focus Foundation, has a wide range of 20 colors, so hopefully most people can find a matching shade. I debated on which color to try, and wound up purchasing Nude Ivory. It’s an excellent match for my skin! (I think, at least? Feel free to let me know if I’m way off. 😂)

The packaging is convenient, and has a sort of spatula wand that makes it very easy to distribute the product onto your face. I use about 2 spatula’s worth (if that makes sense), and blend out the foundation with my Beauty Blender or wet n wild’s flat top brush

I think the coverage is medium to heavy, which I prefer. I did still go in with Maybelline’s Fit Me Concealer to brighten up my under eye area, but I was pleased with how well the foundation covered my natural redness.

I’ve been using this foundation off and on for a couple of months now, and I feel like I definitely need to set it all over with powder, or it makes my skin very greasy. I have combination skin, and usually setting my T-Zone with powder is enough to keep me oil-free all day, but that isn’t the case with this foundation. I use the highlighter side of wet n wild’s contour palette to set this makeup, and it works great. There is also a complimentary wet n wild Photo Focus powder, but I haven’t tried that yet. Just be warned that unless you have very dry skin, I would definitely set this foundation with powder.

Aside from the oiliness, the wear time on this foundation is pretty good. If you typically touch up your makeup, I’d guess you won’t need to do so until about four or five hours of application. If you’re naturally oily, one blotting sheet around that time and you should be good to go for awhile longer.

Another point I wanted to mention is that this product definitely has a bit of a chemical smell. It does fade once it dries on your skin, but if you’re sensitive to smells, maybe give this one a whiff in the store before purchasing.

The main claim of the Photo Focus line is to prevent flashback regardless of lighting conditions. I used natural light to take the photos above (as I usually try to do), and I definitely see pretty flawless results. I haven’t tested this makeup with a flash or in different lighting conditions, but in daylight at least, I’m very pleased.

At only $5.99 (or less if you can find a coupon at your store!), I would definitely recommend this foundation. If you want a medium to high coverage look, and you’re willing to put in the effort to set the foundation, there aren’t many downsides to this product!

wet n wild has definitely stepped up their game in the last few years, and this wet n wild Photo Focus Foundation is no exception! Have you tried any other products from wet n wild recently? Let me know!

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation and Concealer

0

I have been seeing the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation and Maybelline Fit Me Concealer praised all over the place lately. From people who love high end makeup to drugstore fans, these seem to be pleasing everyone!

both

I decided to jump on the bandwagon, so I purchased both of these products last week. I feel like I have finally used them enough to write a review.

close face

No surprise, I’M A FAN! I purchased the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in Fair 15. There is another light shade, Light 10, but it seemed to have more yellow undertones. Fair had pink undertones, which suits my skin better.concealer 1

It comes in sleek packaging with a doe foot applicator. I have been using it as both an under-eye concealer and to cover blemishes and redness.

concealer 2

The formula is great! It’s so creamy and smooth, without being greasy or looking too thick. It easily blends out with either my finger or Beauty Blender and provides enough lightness without making me look like a raccoon.

concealer 3

In fact, my mom has been on the quest for a good under-eye concealer for years and has tried every high-end product around, and she recently tried this and loves it, too!

face 2

I think the concealer adds brightness, while blending seamlessly into my foundation, which is everything I look for in a concealer. Oh, and coverage, duh. It does a great job of that, too. 🙂

face 3

For the foundation, I picked up the shade Natural Ivory 112. It is the second lightest shade, and seemed to have similar coloring and undertones to the concealer.

foundation 1

I LOVE THIS FOUNDATION. It seemed slightly drying when I first put it on, but I decided to wear it regardless, and give it a chance. I’m so happy I did! I’ve always wanted to have that porcelain skin look, but I feel like I can’t ever achieve it with my freckles. This foundation got me the closest I’ve ever been!

face

It comes in a bottle with no pump, so I simply dot it around my face with my fingers and blend it in with a foundation brush.

foundation 2

It definitely diminishes the look of my pores (I think anyway, based on the photo below!), and gives my face a flawless finish without looking like I have tons of makeup caked. It supposedly contains micro-powders that help absorb oils throughout the day, but I still get shiny after a few hours of wear.

foundation 3

What else is there to say? I’m a believer! This foundation and concealer combination is my current favorite, and at around $10 for both, I think it will be for quite awhile!

Beauty Blurbs: Revlon Colorstay Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin

0

Hey y’all! First things first, I always have the desire to refer to my readers as “Hooters,” which is totally not okay. Unfortunately, it popped into my head one day, and now every time I start a blog post, I want to say, “Hi Hooters!” Don’t worry, I’ll continue resisting the urge, I just wanted to fill you all in on my creative process. 😉

Today’s post could alternatively be titled “Selfie Overload!” So…I’m sorry in advance for that! I am reviewing Revlon Colorstay Makeup for Normal/Dry Skin and wearing the color “Buff,” which is the next to lightest shade. I have repurchased this foundation multiple times and continue to love it!

1

This foundation claims to provide “longwearing coverage with a lightweight formula that won’t cake, fade, or rub off.” I must agree! Don’t let the term ‘lightweight’ make you think it doesn’t offer great coverage! With a light layer, I am able to even out my skin tone and cover minor blemishes easily.

2

I have worn this foundation with and without a primer, and it stays on for HOURS each time. On the bottle, it says it can be worn for up to 24 hours, but the maximum amount of time I’ve worn it is around 14 hours. The normal/dry skin formula controls the shine even on my oily areas really well. If I ever have any issues I do a quick swipe with an oil-absorbing sheet, and I’m good to go!

3

This foundation works for me from day-to-night and light-to-heavy makeup applications. There is a Combination/Oily skin formula I have tried when my skin gets more oily, and it works great as well! With 20 shades, this foundation covers a pretty wide range of skin tones.

4

Another positive aspect of Revlon Colorstay Makeup is that I’ve been able to achieve both dewy and matte looks with it! On the left in the photo above, I used a blush with more shimmer (MAC Peachykeen) and a lighter application. On the right, I used a finishing powder (e.l.f. High Definition Powder), matte blush (MAC Pink Swoon), and heavier application. With simple variations, this foundation can provide quite a range of looks and satisfy several styles.

5

If it’s not obvious yet, I’m a huge fan of this foundation, and that has almost nothing to do with the fact that it’s only about $10! If you’re looking for a great, new foundation (that just happens to be inexpensive!), definitely try out Revlon Colorstay Makeup!

Beauty Blurbs: Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation

Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1

I figured it was high time for my first foundation review on Hoots of a Night Al, so I decided to start with one of my tried and true favorites. The Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation is a great, affordable, medium coverage foundation. With 14 shades to choose from, it will fit a range of skin tones. Another perk is that it can be found at most drugstores as well as Walmart and Target for around $10 or less.

Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1

As always, I typically apply my foundation with a MAC 187 duo fibre face brush. I have had this brush for years, and it really blends my foundation evenly. However, I have also applied this foundation with my fingers, and the results are still great.

As you can see in the photo below, one layer of the Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 foundation covers almost all of my redness and helps with my under eye circles. The “3-in-1” claim implies that this foundation combines primer, concealer, and foundation in one step. I am happy to say it can be layered to achieve fuller coverage for trouble spots. Of course if you have more severe skin issues, a concealer will always aid in covering up those areas.

Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1

On my combination skin, the foundation lasts for around 10-12 hours without a primer, so I think their claims are pretty fair! With a primer, it lasts even longer, of course.

Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1

Another perk of this foundation is that it has SPF 20 included, so you’re helping to protect your skin all day. This product is unscented, which is nice. It has a relatively matte finish, and you can add a finishing powder to help your look stay fresh all day.

Covergirl Outlast 3-in-1

Covergirl’s Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation is one of my go-to drugstore foundations for the price and quality. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced product for everyday wear, I would give it a try!
