Beauty Blurbs: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic

0

My love affair with Revlon lip products is no secret. This past weekend I broke my bronzer, so to cheer me up my sweet husband took me to Ulta to replace it and pick up a few more things. 😉 He actually picked out this Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic for me, and I love it!

1

This BRIGHT pink has a slight mint scent and is super pigmented. It is totally the perfect color for the fun, summer months to come.

2

You can see below the matte balm does slightly sink into the crevices of my lips, but it’s not nearly as bad as Mischievous. Once I layered it, it was a lot better. I think with a good lip primer or some balm underneath the problem would be solved.

3

The wear-time is okay. It stayed on really well until I ate lunch, so I’m pretty pleased. It’s definitely not moisturizing though, so if you have dry lips, I’d stay away or invest in some great primer.

4

You can see in natural light Unapologetic is a really beautiful pink color. I wore it shopping the other day, and the sales associate complimented it and couldn’t believe it was Revlon! She told me it looked much more expensive and thought I was lying until I pulled it out of my purse. Guess that’s a good sign??

5

The great thing about the Revlon balms is that they come in matte balm, balm stains, and lacquer balms, so they have something for everyone! Plus, you can pick them up anywhere, which is great. Hope if you try Unapologetic you like it as much as I do!

6Also, in the spirit of full disclosure (in case you couldn’t tell), I took the last few pictures in my shower. Like literally, standing in my bathtub, taking pictures of myself. What? It had the best lighting at the time! Hey, when you live in an apartment and are working with a point-and-shoot camera, desperate times call for desperate measures.

On that note, I’m off to enjoy Seinfeld reruns with my perfect lipstick-selecting hubby! Hope you had a great Wednesday!

Beauty Blurbs: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Mischievous

0

Recently Ulta had all of their Revlon cosmetics 40% off, and I wanted to seize the opportunity to acquire more of my beloved Revlon lip products! There are a few colors I’ve had my eye on, but the only one they had in the store was Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Mischievous*.

1.jpg

Mischievous is a light orange matte balm. I’ve reviewed other Revlon matte balms in the past, but I always forget to mention that they have slight minty scent. It’s not overpowering, and I really like it.

2

I love the tone of Mischievous. It is just enough color to warm up my lips without being too crazy. I think it’s a great shade for spring and summer that would go with several skin tones and makeup looks.

3

The one BIG problem I had with Mischievous was that it seriously sunk into the crevices in my lips. It doesn’t look too terrible in the pictures, but it was pretty rough in person. I tried exfoliating my lips, applying some regular lip balm before the matte balm, and layering the product, but nothing seemed to help. I’m thinking Mischievous is a different formula than Standout and Sultry because both of those shades glide onto and coat my lips easily.

4The application bothered me so much I decided to return Mischievous to Ulta (shoutout for their awesome return policy). I knew that I wouldn’t get enough use out of it to justify keeping it. Based on other reviews I’ve read, it seems like results of this lip color are mixed. Some encounter the same problem I did and some don’t. If you’re looking for a light, pretty color for spring, I would pick it up to try yourself…just make sure you buy it somewhere it can be returned just in case!

*Up until I purchased this lip product, I was pronouncing mischievous as “mis-chee-vee-us.” As I was blogging, I realized that pronunciation didn’t really make sense with the spelling. After some research, I learned that the correct pronunciation is actually “mis-chuh-vuhs”, which I’ve heard but never used. Apparently, this mispronunciation has been around since the 1500s though, so I’m not the first one to mess up. Here’s an article on the Oxford Dictionaries blog if you’re a nerd like me, and you want to read more about it. 🙂

Beauty Blurbs: Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Standout

0

Howdy friends! I’m back today with a review of another Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm. After searching far and wide (ok, just Walmart & Ulta), I finally got my hands (well hand…it’s not that giant) on a tube of Standout. I totally fell in love with Sultry, so I was psyched to finally find this color to try!

1

This is a classic, beautiful red. I’ve looked for and tried other red lipsticks before, and I find that so many are either a coral red or a pinky red or an orangey red, but not just a true, RED. Yes, I know that sounds dumb. Trust me though. Go look for a true red lipstick, and you’ll see how hard it is to find! First world problems, I know.

2

As I said before, I love the Revlon Matte Balms. Between these and the Balm Stains, Revlon is quickly becoming the holy grail of lip products for me! The Matte Balm is matte (duh), highly pigmented, and very long-lasting. It does tend to sink into cracks and crevices on your lips and is obviously not moisturizing. Make sure your lips are smooth and moisturized before enjoying these rich, beautiful shades.

3

BAM. Did I tell you, or what? A true, classic red! Love it! I know it’s kind of bold, but I’ve been wanting to try red lips for quite awhile. Standout Matte Balm sealed the deal for me.

4

Don’t commit to this color if you don’t want it on for a LONG TIME. Seriously, today, I ate pigs in a blanket, went to church, drank water, took a nap, and ate chipotle over a span of several hours, and this stuff DIDN’T BUDGE. And no, I wasn’t eating super awkwardly trying to avoid messing up my lipstick or anything. I reapplied once to the inner area of my lips just to ensure the color remained even, but it really wasn’t necessary.

5

I kept my eye makeup simple, so Standout could be…uh…the standout.

6

The one small issue I did have was some bleeding around the edges of my lips. I think that’s pretty typical of several lipsticks, but it’s still a pain. I may invest in a “clear” lipliner and use that underneath as I’ve heard that eliminates bleeding and increases wear. Worth a shot!

7For good measure, here are a few shots of me looking like a fool trying to take pictures…ridiculous. 😉 All for y’all. Get your own tube of Standout here!

More Beauty Blurbs and a yummy recipe coming up this week! Get ready!

Beauty Blurbs: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm in Sultry

0

Hey y’all! I’ve been trying to get my hands on some of the new Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms, but they’re so popular I can never find the colors I’ve been wanting! I had my heart set on Standout, which is supposed to be “the perfect red.” Every time I looked, it was nowhere to be found! I think it was a blessing in disguise though, because I wound up buying Sultry instead, and I love it!

1

It’s a much more everyday color, so I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of it. I snagged mine for $8.99 at Ulta, and it’s one of 10 colors you can select from. Sultry is super pigmented, so the color comes out nice and rich. It also had a slight, refreshing, minty smell.2

My one con is that the Matte Balm isn’t very balm-like at all. According to the website, “Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm offers velvety color with balm-like moisture.” First of all, I don’t think a color can be velvety? Secondly, I definitely didn’t feel a balm-like moisture. It actually sort of dried out my lips. It wasn’t too terrible, but I may try layering it with gloss or over some chapstick in the future. It sank into all my lip cracks and crevices, so maybe a lip primer would work as well?3

Overall, the color was great. It was sort of a punched up “natural” lip color like Honey but with a little more “oomph.” The wear time is pretty good, too. I’d say it lasted me about 4-5 hours before eating. After, I ate dinner, I definitely had to reapply. I wouldn’t say that’s unexpected though…especially since the Revlon Matte Balm doesn’t claim to be long-wearing. 4

I definitely want to buy a few more colors if they ever aren’t all sold out! And, just to round out this post, here are some real awkward pictures of me. The life of a wannabe blogger isn’t ALL glamour. Enjoy! Get your own tube of Sultry here
