Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor in Temptation

If you’ve been around here for awhile, you know of my love for Revlon lip products. They recently released a new formula…the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolors. I’ve been wanting to acquire some for awhile to try them out, and lo and behold, they were on sale at Target last weekend! Hallelujah!

Revlon Temptation 0

The color I bought is Temptation. It’s a bright mauve-pink. According to Revlon, “Ultra HD Matte Lip Color is a lightweight, high definition, matte color with a moisturizing velvety feel.” I’m not really sure how a lip color can be “HD,” but that seems to be a big buzzword in makeup right now…wonder what technological words they’ll use in makeup next? And what does that make my “non-HD” lipsticks? Standard?

Revlon Temptation 1

Regardless, I like this lipcolor! I’m torn whether to call it a lipgloss or a lipstick, because it applies like a gloss. However, it wears more like a lipstick. Hence the name lipcolor, perhaps? It has a plush applicator that allows for relatively easy application. I love the matte packaging, but it does affect the color appearance. For example, this color looked much less vibrant in the tube than it actually is. Just be aware and look up swatches online before you purchase it. Revlon also has examples of women of various skin tones modeling each color on their website.

Revlon Temptation 2

I felt like the color sunk into the crevices in my lips a little when I applied it, but it wasn’t too drastic and lessened with wear. I also think this wouldn’t be an issue with a darker color. Lighter toned lip products often have this issue, I’ve noticed.

Revlon Temptation 3

Like I said, this product applies like a gloss, and while it claims to be matte, mine didn’t really ever set until waaaaaay later. It is definitely not extremely shiny, but don’t expect it to set like a matte right away. If you blot it, I think it will look matte much faster, but I chose not to.

Revlon Temptation 4

I was pleased with the wear time. As you can see below, a lot of color was still there after 5 hours (and those hours included eating a turkey wrap and drinking from a water bottle!). There is a slight lipliner effect going on, but overall, I’m pleased with how much of the product/stain remained…especially since it doesn’t claim to be long wearing.

Revlon Temptation 5

Another good note is that it didn’t seem as drying as other matte products I own. If mattes tend to dry out your lips or you think your lips are too dry to wear matte products, this may be a perfect option for you. I’m not sure I would go as far to say that it is “velvety” or “moisturizing” (which it claims), but it’s definitely not drying.

Revlon Temptation 6

Another thing I wanted to point out is the smell. It’s a pretty strong vanilla scent similar to Lip Smackers Vanilla Frosting circa 1999. If you’re sensitive to smells and flavors for lip products you may want to steer clear. The smell goes away pretty quickly after application, thankfully.

Revlon Temptation 7

Overall, I’m pleased with Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor, and I think I may purchase a few more of the eight available shades. If you try any out or have another color recommendation, let me know!

15-Minute Chicken Tacos

ChickenTacos0

Y’all, these chicken tacos have been the #1 item on our meal rotation lately, so let me tell you why. They’re delicious, make great leftovers, are easy to make, and only need six ingredients! Do I have your attention? Read on for the quick, delicious recipe.ChickenTacos1

One of the best things about these tacos is how quick they are to prepare! They’re perfect for nights that we work out when Louis gets home, because after our run, I can still have dinner ready in under 30 minutes without any previous prep! They don’t even need to marinate like most other recipes I’ve found.

ChickenTacos2

You will need:

  • 1 lb White Chicken Meat
  • 1 Medium Onion
  • 3 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 Tablespoon Ground Cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper (freshly ground)
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt

Slice the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Slice the onion. Mince the garlic. Combine those ingredients with the spices in a mixing bowl and stir until everything is evenly coated.

ChickenTacos3

Heat a cast-iron skillet* over medium heat with just enough olive oil to cover the bottom. Dump all of your combined ingredients into the skillet, and wait to hear that satisfying sizzle.

ChickenTacos4

Keep an eye on the chicken, stirring every couple of minutes to ensure nothing is burning. Continue cooking until the chicken is no longer pink and the onions are translucent. In total, this should take about 10 minutes.

ChickenTacos5

That’s it! After that, prepare your tacos however you enjoy! I prefer crunchy corn shells with shredded cheese. Louis loves them on corn tortillas with my homemade salsa and a squeeze of a fresh lime. ChickenTacos6

This recipe makes about ten tacos, so we always have leftovers, which are just as delicious the next day.

I hope you enjoy these tacos as much as we have!

*Our cast-iron skillet was the best investment we’ve made for our kitchen! We use it to cook so many recipes, and I know we’ll have it for years to come. I’d totally recommend buying one if you haven’t yet

Simple Ginger Dressing

0 ginger dressing header

Have you ever been to a hibachi style restaurant and received the onion soup and salad before the magician of a chef comes out and starts slinging fried rice everywhere and making onion volcanoes? (That will probably all sound very odd if you’ve never been to a hibachi restaurant…) This dressing recipe tastes just like the dressing on those salads! It’s a simple oil-based dressing that works great on salads or as a marinade.

1 ginger dressing salad

My favorite thing to enjoy it on is a simple salad of romaine, carrots, purple onion, and shrimp. However, my parents marinate their shrimp with this dressing to grill, and if we had a grill, I have admit, that would be my favorite way to utilize it! It makes a great sauce for cooked shrimp as well.

2 ginger dressing ingredients

This dressing is as easy as tossing all of your ingredients together and blending them up!

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ketchup
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

3 ginger dressing mix

It is best to blend all of the ingredients except for the oil, and then continue blending while slowly adding in the oil. I typically store my ginger dressing in a mason jar or cruet. Since it’s oil based, I usually don’t refrigerate this dressing. I think that makes it much easier to mix up when you want to use it, as the ingredients will always settle and separate.

4 ginger dressing mixed

I hope you love this dressing/marinade/sauce as much as I do if you decide to make it! If you do, please let me know how you enjoy it most, so I can try it that way, too!

5 ginger dressing

Enjoy, and happy cooking!

Beauty Blurbs: Japonesque Luminous Foundaiton

Japonesque 1

Hey y’all! Today, I wanted to review the Japonesque Luminous Foundation for you. I purchased this shade quite awhile ago, and it has definitely become one of my favorite foundations.

Japonesque 2

The shade I am wearing here is 02. There are only 10 shades available, so it may be hard for some to find their perfect match. I love how moisturizing it is without making me look greasy. The formula creates a dewey look that has a medium-full coverage.

Japonesque 3

I have some patches of redness on a my cheeks and forehead, and this foundation easily covers them.

Japonesque 4

The Japonesque Luminous Foundation costs around $36, which is definitely more than I typically spend on foundation (WUT UP drugstore cosmetics!?). However, I think the cost is justified for how great the product is.

Japonesque 5

It stays on my combination skin for at least 8 hours, though if you have very oily skin, it may not last as long. I use a finishing powder to help set it as well.

Japonesque 6

If you’re in the market for a new foundation, I definitely recommend giving Japonesque Luminous Foundation a try. Its dewey, luminous finish is sure to please any makeup lover!

Japonesque 7

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂 Talk to you soon!

Friday Favorites!

Happy New Year…ish!  We’re a week into 2016, and mine is going great so far! How’s yours? I wanted to pop in and share a few of my recent favorites in case you want to enjoy them, too!

Aspen Bay Volcano Candle

Volcano Candle

If you’ve ever been to Anthropologie and wondered what smelled so delicious, this is it. My sweet friend Anne came to visit me last fall and I raved about how much I loved the scent of this candle while we were out shopping. When Christmas rolled around, she surprised me with my very own!:) This sweet, fragrant candle is almost always burning when I’m home now, and I know I’ll have to repurchase another one soon!

Today is Going to Be a Great Day! Poster Calendar

Calendar

After looking around for the perfect calendar for the new year, I found this one and fell in love. Each month has a quote written and designed by various artists. Even better, the designs have perforated edges, so they can be saved and framed as decor later! I already want to use half of the months as decoration, so I can’t wait for the year to rush by, so I can tear them out! 12 poster prints (11″ x 14″) for $15 plus a functional calendar seems like a great deal to me!

MyFitnessPal

IMG_7932

Louis and I have started the new year (like many others I’m sure) with a goal of eating healthier and being more active. The only way I’m able to keep myself accountable and on track is with the help of MyFitnessPal. I use it to track my calories consumed, exercise, and weight, conveniently all in one place. It’s free on the app store and also accessible online (for free!). Give it a try if you need help tracking your own fitness goals!

Duolingo

Duolingo

Duolingo is a free service Louis told me about that allows you to learn a new language through daily exercises. They have over 20 languages to learn, and I started with Spanish. I don’t know if y’all are like me, but despite “learning” Spanish for 4 years in school…I barely retained any. Oops. However, the activities on Duolingo are created in such a way that my retention rate is MUCH higher! I complete a few of the lessons each day, and I’m currently on a 63 day streak, which proves learning a new language can be fun. 🙂 If you’re looking for another way to grow this year, perhaps learning a new language is a good place to start? Once we feel relatively comfortable with Spanish, Louis and I are moving on to French!

Snapchat

IMG_7933

I know Snapchat is nothing new, but I didn’t really get it for awhile. However, I’ve recently gotten more into it, and I love it! It’s so fun to try out the various lense filters, add text to my photos, and look at other people’s stories.  I’m not following that many people, so if you’re on, let me know, so I can find you! My username is mrsalilang…hope to see you on Snapchat!

I hope your 2016 has started out wonderfully and only continues to get better! Have a great weekend!
