Easter 2013

EasterheaderHappy Easter! Louis and I had a busy, fun Sunday celebrating the day Jesus rose with church, fajitas, and hunting and dying eggs! Here is a photo recap of our day!

We started the day with visiting the movies a new church, Mission Church. I found a flier for the church by our apartment mailboxes, and (since we have been visiting different churches since we moved here) we decided to give it a try this Easter! The awkward part? They meet here:

So…yes. Louis and I spent the first few hours of our Easter at a movie theater that would be screening The Host moments after the last worship song. It was a little bizarre to be sitting there with our feet sticking to the floor while listening to the gospel, but the pastor (an Aggie grad! Whoop!) gave a great message, and we really enjoyed the service overall.

Heading to church!

After church we decided to have a celebratory Easter lunch, and headed to Pappasito’s for some of their delicious fajitas. I acted like a 7-year old and asked Louis to take a picture of me with the Mexican Easter Bunny. Of course, not before I spilled salsa all over my shirt. We got seated in the back banquet room at a table for 6, so it was nice and quiet and we had an awkward amount of room to spread out.

I ran into the Easter Bunny at Pappasito’s…I also spilled salsa on my shirt.
After a delicious lunch of fajitas at Pappasito’s!

We headed home from lunch for a rousing Easter egg hunt! No Easter is complete without hunting for some candy-filled plastic orbs! The fact that we live in an 800 square foot apartment made the hunt a little difficult, but we managed to find some excellent spots for hiding! Louis hid a dozen eggs for me, while I was quarantined to our bedroom, and, after I found all my eggs, I hid a dozen for him!

All of our hunting worked up our appetite, so Louis requested a sweet dessert. We headed down the road to Marble Slab for a snack! I was craving Sweet Cream with gummy bears (seriously, I acted like a child all day today…), and when I asked for gummy bears, the employee looked at me like I was an idiot. “We don’t have gummy bears at this location.” BLASPHEMY. I settled for Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, and the world did not end.

After our snack excursion, we returned home for another Easter tradition…dying eggs! Usually I have great goals for my eggs every year, and they end up looking super rough. This year though, Louis and I made some pretty beautiful ones if I do say so myself.

While we boiled our eggs and waited for them to be ready to dye though, I got to FaceTime with my family who were celebrating Easter together in Houston! They were so hilarious and fun to catch up with. Their day included church, ribs, and an indoor egg hunt due to rainy weather. The most special part of the day though, was celebrating Henry’s 1st Easter! I loved seeing their updates all day on Instagram, but it was so much better being able to chat with them and see them for myself! My mom even gave me a tour of the house to show me her Easter decor and delicious homemade desserts!

It was weird celebrating Easter away from our families this year, but the drive to and from Houston is a pain when we both have work Friday and Monday. I know we’ll get to make some trips home in April and May, so that made it worth staying here and doing laundry and cleaning and doing dishes getting rested up for another work week bearable.

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing Easter!

Our Disney Adventures Through the Years

Anyone who knows me (and probably some who don’t) knows of my love for Disney. Specifically…Walt Disney World. I never get tired of reading about it, looking at pictures of it, and most importantly visiting it. Anyone who knows my sweet husband would probably assume he’s not a Disney fanatic like myself. How wrong they would be.

When Louis and I were going into our sophomore year at Texas A&M, we came up with the crazy idea of taking a trip to Walt Disney World together. Going in, I’m sure Louis was annoyed to be spending thousands of dollars to be going to (at the time) what he thought of as a children’s theme park. Fast forward 4 years and 3 trips later, he understands the magic. 🙂

Moments into our first trip Louis was as hooked as I had been since my first trip as a 4-year old. Since that trip, Louis surprised me with a trip in 2010 for the most romantic proposal ever imagined, and we returned for our honeymoon in 2012. It’s only been 11 months since we were there, but I’m having serious withdrawals. Watching Disney classics, listening to Disney music, and planning dream trips (“Babe…I got it down to $3000 not including food and souvenirs!”), just don’t fill the void like a trip does. Tonight, I sat down and looked through our 797 (literally) Disney trip pictures. I decided to do a little compilation of some similar pictures from each of our 3 trips. Enjoy!

Until then,

Rough, Tough, Real Stuff, Texas A&M

DISCLAIMER: If you aren’t an Aggie or Aggie Fan, this post probably won’t interest you. However, if you are, enjoy.

My handsome hubbs planned some last minute business meetings in College Station last Saturday, so we made a spontaneous day trip there. While he was off being all official, I drove to campus to admire the newly remodeled MSC. It was Aggieland Saturday, so I joined the throngs of anxious parents and high schoolers trying to pretend they were already in college and explored my beloved university and what had changed since I left.

The MSC basement now boasts: A Mac store, air hockey, foosball tables, ping pong tables, a Panda Express, a FROYO station, and more! When I was there, we had a ghetto bowling alley, DDR, and a Chicfila. Times have changed.

When I was there, we had a ghetto bowling alley, DDR, and a greasy Chicfila. Times have changed. The top right picture shows a few of several TV stations. The clear fixture above each couch is what projects the sound from the TV, so it can only be heard by those beneath it. That way it doesn’t disturb others who are studying or passing by. Ridiculous!
I explored the bookstore, which is now TWO stories!?! It had the cutest baby gear that I totally wanted to buy for Henry, but his parents are Cougars...don't want to pressure him too early!

That painting on the left hung in a hall I always walked through as a freshman. It was refreshing to see it still hanging as I wandered around. The middle shot was taken from the bridge between the MSC and Rudder Tower. That bridge is where I went to open every acceptance letter from organizations I applied for. I had many heart-racing moments in that hall, tearing open envelopes that held my plans for the next year. That final shot is pretty self explanatory.

Kyle Field & Rudder Tower haven't changed at all, but I still loved seeing them. I made some of my best memories at organization meetings for MSC FISH and Abbott in Rudder Tower. Kyle Field, I actually don't have many fond memories in. Funny memories there include when Louis got thrown up on before we left early (2%ers) and a bird pooped on him.

The amazing new sculptures were beautiful, but it was great to see the Flag Room was exactly the same. It was the only thing that kept me from getting lost!...Ok, that's a lie. I got lost twice.

Here's a quick apology to any of my instagram followers. I got pretty nostalgic and had an Aggie overload of pictures that day.

I was psyched to visit the Puppy Store at Post Oak Mall (which also had a semi-facelift), but I was CRUSHED to see it had closed! I spent countless hours there bonding with puppies I knew I wouldn't buy.

It is SUCH a blessing that this Lupe wasn't there when we were in school. It was literally 2 minutes from my house, and we definitely would have feasted there every day. BEST QUESO EVER.

It was so good to visit campus. It has changed SO much just since I graduated, and that was only 2 years ago! I met some current MSC FISH members, and they are the Class of 2016. Wow. That made me feel OLD. I can’t lie, I totally teared up walking through the MSC. Yes, as if I wasn’t awkward enough walking around campus alone, I was crying too. It just meant so much to be to be back on campus where I made so many amazing memories. It made me miss the days where I could see 20 familiar faces just walking between classes. Or randomly walking across the street to hang out and watch Gossip Girl with my friends. My time at A&M flew by, and returning to campus made me realize how much I valued every moment I spent there. I am so proud to be an Aggie.

Weekend Update

Nope. Not the funny SNL version…this is just my own Weekend Update. This weekend my dad had to go out of town for work, so Louis and I headed home to keep my mom company. Their mansion can get spooky at night, and she was a little scared to be home alone. I mean, she’s no Kevin McAllister.

Image

I picked Louis up from work on Friday, and we began the long treck back to Houston. We arrived to a delicious snack attack basket and some yummy Valentine’s Mickey Mouse cookies. YUM. (Side note: upon seeing the picture below, my mom said, “If I had known you were taking a picture I would have fluffed the pillows!” Ya mom…the room was a wreck in the picture.)

Image

We laughed and talked and laughed and snacked and laughed and passed out around 2:00 AM. We needed to get SOME rest because the morning was bringing some very special visitors….

Image

HENRY!!!!! (and his parents!) My mom cooked a billion cinnamon rolls and we sat around and laughed and ate and laughed and talked and laughed. Here is some precious proof:

I mean…I can’t even. He’s too cute. I loved seeing Amy and Travis too! They have so many exciting things going on, so it’s always fun to catch up.

After lots of laughter they headed out, and my mom and I got ready. I remained obsessed with Maybelline’s Falsies mascara. I mean, seriously.

Maybellinefalsies
Maybe she’s born with it…NOPE. I wasn’t.

First we enjoyed Chipotle at Market Street. We sat outside in the breeze and reminisced about the time I slipped and ate it at the Chipotle in downtown Houston a year ago. Man, time flies. I loved laughing with her!

Beautiful company!
Beautiful company!

IMG_0420

After we gorged on their yummy chips and guacamole, we shopped around at Francesca’s (precious accessories and clothes) and Zulee’s  (overpriced crap like ceramics you can personalize and $75 candles) we wound up at my fave…MARSHALL’S HOMEGOODS. I could spend hours in there. We did. I ended up with the cutest blazer and cardigan…both on clearance! I’ll post pictures of them at some point! We finally headed home to throw on our sweats, greet my dad coming home from LA (as in Louisiana…hah), and watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop with some homemade popcorn…which included more laughter and eating and laughter.

Today, we woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across our head, and headed to Shipley’s…of course. I wanted to see Henry and his parents again! So…we laughed and ate donuts and laughed and watched Henry be super cute. It will probably have been my last time at Amy and Travis’s house before they move to their beautiful new place! So excited for them.

Time flew and we headed home to pack….aaaaand so my mom could cut my pants. Louis bought me some VS Pink (not actually pink…they’re grey. That’s ALWAYS confusing.) sweatpants in October for my gallbladder surgery (because I was being a baby), and they were about 3 feet too long. When I asked about the weird length, they salesgirl said, “Oh yeah. You’re supposed to cut them yourself to create your own custom length!” I translated that to, “Even though we’re charging you $50 for sweatpants, we’re too cheap to add a finished hem!” Thankfully, my mom trimmed them up, Louis and I…okay, Louis loaded up the car, and we headed on our way!

Our drive home included seeing the following (full screen it for a better view):

Not a clue. Seriously. Back in San Antonio we grabbed Chipotle (twice in two days? I know.) and ate it while watching 30 Rock because it’s hilarious (what Superbowl?). It was a great weekend, and I loved seeing my family!

Twentytwelve

Well folks, 2012 has come and gone. (Duh.) I’ve been reading an obscene amount of “this is what I did this year” statuses on facebook, which is super annoying. Why? Because the people that wrote them are the ones who updated their status every 23 minutes the entire year. So yes, facebook acquaintance, I know you had a child this year because you posted how many centimeters you were dilated during labor.

In order to not be annoying like all of the people of facebook I’m too lazy to unfriend because it takes 3457545234 steps, I will NOT be posting a status about my year. I’ll be blogging about it. Hypocrite? Nope. Don’t worry, I’ll keep it short…ish.
