Wet n Wild Megaglo Illuminating Palette in Catwalk Pink

Contouring, Highlighting, Strobing, and more are all the rage right now! Everyone seems to love piling on the shimmer until they’re almost blinding others. AND I’M TOTALLY ON BOARD. However, so many highlighters are crazy expensive, so I was psyched to find this wet n wild megaglo Illuminating Palette for only $4!

The pan is HUGE and contains 4 different shimmering powders. From left to right it includes a light gold, a pinkish white, a rosy pink, and a bronzy tan. Each strip is a little under an inch wide, so you get tons of product.

As you can see, this palette works wonderfully as a highlighter. I used a blend of the two left shades on my under-eye, cheekbone, forehead, and the bridge of my nose. I also use the rosy pink as a blush. All together they help brighten my face, hide dark circles, and blur imperfections.

I love that the colors can be worn alone or blended depending on your goals or skin tone. The palette color name is Catwalk Pink, which I think is misleading, since only half of the shades have pinkish tones.

I have also used the two left shades as highlighters on my brow-bone and inner eye corner, and they blend beautifully.

Since I am very fair-skinned, these shades really pop on my face. They are pretty pigmented though, so I think they would flatter anyone!

I love this illuminating palette because it adds an iridescent shimmer without making my face look oily. Some highlighters go a bit over the top, and the result is a greasy-looking face! No, thanks.

At times I wish the palette had a bit more glow, but for five bucks, I can’t complain too much. However, since I’m already complaining, I also wish the colors were a bit more separated. When I use the pink shade as a blush, it’s difficult to maneuver my blush brush without coating it with the other colors as well. But, like Tim Gunn suggests, I “make it work.”

I know several people tend to swirl all of the powders together for a beautiful shimmery look, so I suppose to palette set up is perfect for that!

Swiping this palette on my cheekbones is my favorite part! To me, that’s where the shimmer pops most, along with the bridge of my nose.

If you’re anxious to try out the contouring world, or just add a bit of luminescence to your makeup routine, I can’t recommend the wet n wild megaglo Illuminating Palette enough!

wet n wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio in Plaid to the Bone

I’ve been on a bit of a roll recently reviewing wet n wild’s Limited Edition Fall 2016 Collection. I figured I would continue the streak and share my thoughts about their other new Color Icon Eyeshadow Trio, Plaid to the Bone.

Similar to Velour Vixen, this eyeshadow palette contains three shades designated for certain areas of your eye (Browbone, Crease, Eyelid). However, while Velour Vixen was all warm tones, Plaid to the Bone contains cool tones.

The “browbone” shade is a tan shimmer. While I wouldn’t use this on my browbone per se, it is a great transition or base shade.

The “crease” shade is a beautiful navy shimmer. This is my favorite color in the palette, and I used it to line my lower lash line as well. I think this would mix well with other shadows like copper or bronze.

Finally, the “eyelid” shade is a shimmer green with gold tones. It’s a very bizarre color and looks completely different swatched and applied than it does in the palette.

I usually prefer plums, reds, or neutral browns for eyeshadow, so I was unsure of this palette when I purchased it and even when I applied it. I decided to try it for the first time on a day I was substitute teaching. Um, PRO TIP: DON’T try new makeup on a day you have to go out in public.

Since this palette definitely seems like more of an evening look to me, I ended up feeling a bit like a showgirl at school all day, but hey, life goes on. Also, looking at these pictures, the look isn’t quite as dramatic as I felt it looked in person that day. *Whew*

However, since this is a bolder shadow look, I would recommend pairing it with a more neutral lip color. I’ve yet to find a nude lipstick that doesn’t look like a concealer on me, so I stuck with an old faithful, MAC Viva Glam V.

These shadows are very pigmented, so a little goes a long way! I would recommend starting light and building up to your desired intensity, which shouldn’t take much product at all.

There is definitely a little bit of fallout, but lightly tapping your eyeshadow brush before application will help with that. I also applied Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo Metal in Barely Branded as a primer. It helps my shadow stay put ALL day long.

Will this be my new everyday shadow? Probably not. But I can see myself reaching for it in the future! I think it would be great for date night, or I would love to use the navy “crease” shade with a bronze shimmer.

Not to mention wet n wild’s Plaid to the Bone shadow trio is only $2.99. For less than $3, you really can’t beat it! I have one more review from wet n wild’s Limited Edition Fall 2016 Collection still to come, so I hope y’all aren’t sick of beautiful makeup for amazing prices yet!

wet n wild How Fleek Is Your Love Color Icon Matte Liquid Lipstick

If you’ve read my blog at all, you know I love classic red lipstick. So when I saw this beautiful red released with wet n wild’s Limited Edition Fall Collection, I couldn’t pass it up.

This shade, How Fleek is Your Love, is one of four Color Icon Matte Liquid Lipsticks in their new collection. First of y’all, the name? So dumb and weird. I cringed just typing it. However, a lipstick by any other name would be as beautiful. Or something like that.

Poorly misused quotes aside, I’m trying to express that I love this lipstick! The formula is a true matte that dries down only seconds after application.

The color payoff is amazing and completely covered my lips in one coat. This is a classic blue-red lip that will flatter any and all skin tones! I think it makes teeth look whiter, also!

The applicator is a fuzzy, doe foot wand, that made application relatively easy. The flock on the applicator was a little long for my taste, which meant I made a few mistakes applying the lipstick. It is also curved in towards the tip, which I’m assuming is to allow more product to be picked up there. I was able to cover almost all of my lips with one swipe which was nice.

I would definitely have some tissues, concealer, and/or a lip brush on hand to help clean up any mistakes you make. This product dries FAST and is LONG wearing, so try to remove any excess/accidental lipstick you apply ASAP!

However, since it sets down to a matte so quickly, bleeding wasn’t an issue for me. Hooray!

It also doesn’t transfer. It stayed on well for several hours. I was able to drink water, but it started flaking oddly when I tried eating with it on. It sort of came off in tiny little chunks, but not off completely. It would have definitely required reapplication though!

In fact, I had to use a lipstick remover to get it all the way off! This lipstick remove from e.l.f. worked great. Just beware before you apply this stuff that it is HARD to remove without a product designed to do just that. Otherwise you’ll be scrubbing your poor lips raw!

All this jabbering and I haven’t even mentioned one of the best parts! This matte liquid lipstick only costs $2.99! YES. UNDER $3. Unreal!

It’s unfortunately currently sold out on wet n wild’s website. However, it is sold at HEB, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and other retailers. Wet n wild also has a store locator function, so you can see where to purchase their products in your area.

If you don’t see it in the regular wet n wild section of your store, check end caps for special displays, since this is a Limited Edition collection. And trust me, their collections sell out quickly! I bought everything I wanted from the fall collection as soon as it showed up in my HEB, and the next time I saw the display it was totally empty! If you want something, snatch it up when you see it!

As you can tell, I’m pretty enamored with this wet n wild Color Icon Matte Liquid Lipstick! The price can’t be beat for the quality! I think it holds up well against higher end matte liquid lipsticks for a fraction of the cost.

Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Crimson

I’m a strong believer that red lipstick looks beautiful on anyone! It’s universally flattering, adds some glam to any look, and feels timeless. That’s why I was so excited to get this tube of Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick in Matte Crimson recently.

As you can see, the color is a beautiful, classic red shade. I tend to prefer classic reds over reds with orange, pink, plum, etc. tones. I think it’s the most flattering on my neutral-warm toned MEGA fair skin.

Plus, how cute is this packaging? I think this lip-covered tube may be exclusive to Ulta, but thankfully the Matte Crimson color can be purchased wherever Clinique is sold! (It comes in a classic silver tube everywhere else.)

The Long Last Soft Matte Lipsticks are described as “creamy, matte lip color with staying power.” Their claims include, “This lipstick keeps its soft, matte finish for hours. It will not feather, creep, stain, or dry out.”

I found all of these to be true! I must say, the application was a little difficult. It glided on easily, but the shape of the lipstick made me think this may be easier applied with a lip brush.

However, once applied, I loved it! The color is rich and very pigmented. It claims to be matte, but demi-matte may be more appropriate. It’s not drying like other matte lipsticks, and it will also transfer. I think that’s something to keep in mind if you’re looking for an all-day lipstick.

In the several hours I wore this, it didn’t feather at all, which I often have an issue with. It also didn’t dry out my lips. When I finally wanted to take it off, I had to use makeup remover to get off all the color!

It was very comfortable on my lips and didn’t dry them out like other mattes. It didn’t wear off at all, but I feel like it would have wear off evenly over time, which is nice.

I loved the shade because I feel like it made my teeth look whiter. Some other shades of red aren’t as flattering to teeth color, so I think this one may be slightly blue-red. I’ll never pass up a lipstick that improves my smile!

I love red lipstick because it can be used year-round! I think this Matte Crimson will definitely be in my lipstick rotation this fall.

As you can see here, I paired my red lips with a simple daytime eye look. This color would be great with smoked out eyes for a date night, too, though! Red is versatile like that. 🙂

It costs just under $20 a tube, but I feel like this classic shade would be a great investment. One of my favorite drugstore alternatives is Revlon Matte Balm in Standout, but it’s not quite as vibrant. For a red option that’s even longer-wearing, I prefer MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Perpetual Flame.

If you’re in the market for a new red lipstick to try, I, obviously, would happily recommend this one! It’s vibrant, non-drying, long-wearing, and beautiful!

Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm AS A PRIMER!

If you bounce around in the makeup world at all, you’ve probably heard of this amazing “makeup hack.” If you haven’t, listen up! Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm makes an AMAZING primer. Yes, I know that isn’t its purpose, but isn’t that the whole idea behind a hack??

The first person credited with this fabulous discovery is NikkieTutorials in this video. Apparently, glycerin is the second most used ingredient in Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm, which helps your foundation cling onto your skin. It’s works wonders if you’re trying to achieve a flawless look all day long. It is also alcohol free, so it won’t dry your skin out.

All you have to do is shake it up, and rub it all over your face and neck before applying your foundation. It’s very thin, so it dries quickly. I should also warn you that it definitely has a very masculine scent. However, don’t be dismayed! The smell definitely diminishes once it dries, and it’s worth it for the fabulous results!

I have been using this as a primer for around a year now, and it stays on through everything! Hot, cold, rainy, sweaty, humid, you name it, my foundation stays put! I always use liquid foundations, and every foundation I have tried works fabulously with this post shave balm as a primer. It’s a miracle worker! Even better, it only costs about $7! That’s only $2.12 an ounce! By comparison, Smashbox Primer is $36 an ounce!

You really can’t beat the price and quality if you’re looking for a primer. Nivea Men Sensitive Post Shave Balm is easily found at many drugstores and big box retailers, so if you’re in the market for a new primer grab this to try! You can maintain a beautiful matte finish for pennies a day! That sounds pretty wonderful to me.
